Court of Appeals Hears Christopher Dunn Case at Scott Hall

Saint Louis University School of Law welcomed the Missouri Court of Appeals Eastern District for a special docket held at the John K. Pruellage Courtroom at Scott Hall.

The special docket, held on February 26, is an annual SLU occurrence that provides an opportunity for law students to see the appeals court in action.

Professor Karen Sanner welcomes attorneys and students to Scott Hall for the Missouri Court of Appeals special docket on Feb. 26, 2026.

This special docket included the high-profile case of Christopher Dunn, whose conviction was vacated in 2024. Thursday's hearing was to determine whether Dunn will remain a free man following an effort by the Missouri Attorney General to reverse the district court ruling of his innocence.

The docket provides a unique opportunity for law students, who were joined by community members and students from the School of Social Work.

"Procedure was at the heart of the Dunn case," said Professor Deborah S. O'Malley, who helped organize the visit. “Students were able to observe the live exchange between advocates and judges as they grappled with complex legal issues."

The special docket is part of the legal analysis, research and communication curriculum.
