Types of Visas
If you want to study, work or live in the United States, you’ll probably need a visa. The type of visa will depend on what you plan to do while you’re here.
Student Visa
International students usually come to the United States with either an F-1 or J-1 visa. F-1 is the most common visa for undergraduate students at Saint Louis University, while the J-1 exchange visitor visa is for students who will be attending temporarily (one or two semesters).
Work Visa
There are different types of visas that will allow you to work in the United States, including H-1B, O-1, J-1 and TN. Please contact the Office of International Services to learn which visa is best and what paperwork is required.
Dependent Visa
The Office of International Services can provide support in bringing your spouse or children (who must be unmarried and under the age of 21) to the United States as you study or work.
Visitor Visa
Friends and family from back home who want to visit you will require a B-2 visa. They can apply for this type of visa at the U.S. Embassy/Consulate.
